Lack of grave due discretion.

Today, I got a letter from the Archdiocese of Louisville.

The annulment – which was filed without my knowledge – was affirmed, under the grounds of “lack of grave due discretion” on his part.

It refers to a spouse's inability to make a mature decision to marry at the time of the wedding due to a severe impairment of their knowledge or freedom of consent.

This is cruel.

To claim that he married me (and remained married to me for multiple years!) due to impairment of knowledge or lack of consent is truly, unthinkably cruel.

Every part of me wants to appeal against the decision, but the Church doesn’t play fair, and I don’t have enough emotional resources to be the other player in an unfair game.

I look forward to formally closing this chapter of my life.
